Rutgers lifestyle/parties?

I have officially decided I want to go to Rutgers. I wanted to know how good and often are there parties? How is the lifestyle of Rutgers? I know football games are the best, though besides that, what else is there?

First off, yay, glad you’re coming! There is a TON to do at Rutgers! Being such a large university, it’s really a hot spot for a lot of activities and programming events among other things. Football games of course, are amazing they’re so much fun – even when it’s raining!

Other than that, the party scene is pretty diverse, ranging from your fraternity parties on frat row, to private apartment parties held by upperclassmen, to open house parties by students all around New Brunswick. Students usually head out for a night, starting at a frat party and leaving to go to a house party (or vice versa). Frat hopping is not unusual either. Easton Ave which is right next to College Ave is fully of bars and restaurants which are very popular. Including a small place called Stuff-Yer-Face which has AMAZING bolis and good drinks. The parties can range from so so to amazing, but there are so many of them that you can just leave a so so one and go on to something else. Most of the partying is done Thurs-Sat nights. Sometimes on a random Tuesday, and all week the week of Halloween or back to school. If you aren’t into partying there are other options too…

Rutgers has a great programming association which is known for bringing great bands and speakers to campus. Anyone from the Dalai Lama, to Hilary Clinton to Saves the Day and Third Eye Blind. There are always trips to other cities at reduced fares provided by RUPA too. At the end of the year there is a huge music fest called Rutgersfest which draws in a ton of students from other schools and usually has three big bands come and play for freeeee. It’s pretty awesome.

There are other sports games of course too – not just football that kids go to, namely basketball and baseball. If you like athletics, there are gyms on every campus that are very popular, and its really easy to get on a club team or intramural team of any sport of your choice (even ultimate frisbee.)

Being so close to NYC, people also like to go into the city for the weekend for concerts, shows, eating, clubbing, shopping etc. Twice a year we get NJ Free Transit – meaning students can take the train into NYC for free, its a great week the whole campus empties into the city. It’s a 40 minute train ride for $10 otherwise, so its still cheap and easy.

Don’t worry about getting bored – there’s always more than enough to do, sometimes its a problem cause you just can’t do *everything* Get excited!
