What were the Mayan beliefs on becoming ready for 2012 whenthe sun is aligned the blackdrift.shallitrainfire?

I’ve recently been interested in the Mayan calendar and being its only 6 years away, what better time. I’ve always been agnostic when it comes to religion. If in fact the astrology behind the Mayans is true and on 2012 we will enter a new level of conscience, what were there practices the studyed? Is the black-drift really the birth canal to the Milky Way, and with the sun closet to earth, will it rain fire? How should ones mind be opened to accept this new conscience or will karma decide?

The Maya did not believe that people would enter a new level of consciousness in 2012. That’s a modern New Age interpretation of their beliefs. The Maya had several calendar cycles, the longest one of which ends on 2012. In Mesoamerican perceptions of time, calendar cycles were cyclical and the end of the Long Count calendar would just mean the dates would start over again. At the most, the Maya would have believed that the world MIGHT end on 2012 (which, incidentally, wouldn’t even begin on January 1st to them). Chances are they would take ritual precautions to prevent the end of the world. At best they would simply restart their calendar dates. No vibrating to a higher level of consciousness or any of that drivel.
