Is it legal for me to ask for donations or membership fees via Paypal on my website?

I would like to know if there is anything special that I need to do, to ask for donations or charge membership fees of a club I’ve formed on my site? Here are some example:

1. Just asking to donate money through Paypal.
2. Charging a fee to join a club.
3. Selling an e-book or other item(s) but not enough to make it an Internet retail business; just an offer [e-book for $1.00]

Please be as specific as possible. Thank you.

Be sure to clearly define the terms of your SERVICE when you form the club. You might not get anyone to BUY IN.

Check your PayPal fee schedule… Remember that PayPal charges a fee for everything. So if you charge 50 cents, PayPal keeps most of the money. It might be best to sell eBooks on a Prepaid basis, so people can deposit $10 to download multiple ebooks. The idea is that you would reduce the PayPal fees by having fewer transactions.
