Is the Mayan calander end date of 2012 worth inquiring about?

Given the Mayan’s extensive knowledge of astrology, do you find the Mayan calander and its future end date of 2012 to be credible whether regarding a physical ending or metaphoric ending?

The Mayan calendar doesn’t end on 12-21-2012. The 12th Baktun is ending. (A baktun is about 396 years long). 13 was a sacred number to the Maya and some have misunderstood the meaning of the 13.00.00.00.00 date on their calendar, thinking it mean “end” when it means “new beginning.” Metaphorical, as you put it.
