I’d Be Lying.

I’d be lying if I were to say that me going to Fashion Week, IS not the greatest event to ever happen to me in my entire life.

…Okay. Not best. But high, way high up there.

Youth In Revolt.

How can I begin to describe Youth In Revolt? It was remarkably done. I know Michael Cera gets mentioned within the “one note” category quite often. I have to say though, his pathetic-boy-character was way too good to be missed.  As I said, it was remarkably well done. Everyone in played each part oh-so-very-good.
Having read the book, the humor was not lost, and as per usual moments were moved around for the pace of a film version. All I can really say is, please see this.

When I First Got My Blog,

I wrote about Yes Man. I loved it, it was so cute, and I swear I’m a younger Zooey Deschanel (without the incredible closet and musician husband, or the dating history with ex Jason Schwartzman (lesigh)).
But more importantly, If i were to ever be in a band, the above video is EXACTLY how I’d want the band to be. To a ‘t’, it’s almost revolting. However, I do not care, and if anyone wants some eccentric & eclectic girl who *can* sing and make the crazy clothes….You know where to find me.

Are You Fucking with Me?

Posted in Madness, Simply Put with tags , , , , , , , , , on January 10, 2010 by mindsaymohan

I know I wrote very angry Facebook status about this the other day, but I need to rehash. So excuse me. I read that Mannequin is getting the remake treatment. Excuse me? Who is smoking crack, and where can I remove the pipe from their mouths?
If any of my readers havent picked up on this, let me just say I’m a lover of fine 80’s cheese-induced films. Honestly. It’s true. Give me Mannequin, Mannequin 2, Private Resort, and Bachelor Party any day, I’m completely content with making fun of how utterly stupid these movies are. Ah, but that’s the charm: they’re so bad, they’re good.
Point being, when I read that Mannequin was being remade, my top was blown. Huh? Why?

Andrew McCarthy. my 80’s love of my life (besides John Cusack) being replaced by some Zac Efron looking dude?!Are you serious? The point of Andrew McCarthy was his non-generic looks. He didnt look like Jake Ryan (16 Candles) or Emiliooooo (Breakfast Club). Thank god! He was geeky looking with a wide smile, and had down that bumbling-idiot look.
(i think I just figured out why I dont have a bf..there are no geeky, bumbling idiots with wide smiles anymore!)
Kim Cattrall’s role is going to end up being Miley Cyrus’ new pet project, or worse that girl from Twilight. UGH.
And what about the campiness? There will be no 80’s political incorrectness! It wont be lewd, and gaudy in design/color. The script wont be some pot head’s half assed attempt at a screenplay. I just cant get behind this.

It’s enough that precious gems from my childhood have been taken and raped to the point of no return. I mean, I read about it being remade, and immediately I typed out an angry Facebook status (because that will do so much).

It’s just a bag of grr.

It’s Always Weird.

It’s always strange finding things you’ve written when you were younger. Last night while cleaning out my room, I found my psychology notebook with pages and pages about these guys I really liked, and subsequently dated for a little while.
Having not liked/dated any boys in high school, because they were total jerk-offs was nothing to me. Sure, I pined since *all* of my girlfriends had boyfriends and I was the *one* single girl, but getting to college it seemed to all change. Thank goodness.
So in my writing, it goes on and on about the insecurity that comes with liking someone to the point of tears.  And some entries are actually funny, with admissions of care-free-oh-my-god-i’m-in-love-with-him attitudes. All of this taking place before my first ’serious’ relationship. It completely took me off guard. I didnt remember writing that or writing like that.
However, it’s the feelings, the sense memories I remember. That I remember. But n000o, I cant remember being so smitten and writing about it.
Then came the entry about how it stopped, how it ended. It was so sad/devastating to a much younger me. It almost felt like I was talking to some other girl going through a huge ‘thing’, and attempting to make heads or tails out of something clearly none of my business. It’s hard to explain, but that’s what it came across as.

Like I said, It’s always weird reading something you wrote when you were younger.

I saw Up In The Air…Finally.

Posted in Love, film with tags , , , , , , , , , on January 10, 2010 by mindsaymohan

As the title says, I finally saw Up In The Air. It was a superbly done film. Jason Reitman is really coming into his own directing, and sometimes adapting films. I’m usually not a George Clooney fan (his swagger comes off as arrogance to me), but when it comes to the right material he is a very good actor.

(I can give credit where credit is due.)

I liked how realistic it was, with a dwindling economy and considering the emotional climate – it had it’s moments of humor. Moments where these people ‘let their hair down’ while delivering, in some cases, heart breaking news.
I actually would pay to see it again, that’s how much I liked it.

I thoroughly enjoyed Juno, but not Thank You For Smoking. That I found boring as fuck. What I enjoyed a little bit more than the movie itself, was that Ivan Reitman co-produced Up In The Air. He’s always been quoted as saying that he wanted to stay out of Jason’s way, as not to be considered just as “Ivan Reitman’s son”. But I think it’s great if they team up. Ivan Reitman usually had a nice touch when it came to film (except My Super Ex-Girlfriend…SHUDDER).
I really think everyone would like this film. It made me want to buy the book. Luckily I’ve got a whole list of new books for the new year. Whoo-hoo.

One of my Absolute Favorites.

This movie came out in 1985, and I was a year old. Or practically. I dont know, I’m being lazy and dont feel like checking the exact date. Regardless, I wish I didnt have to explain what this movie is about, having wished so many people should have seen it. My best friend even hasnt, no matter how hard I’ve tried.
Anyway, It’s about John Cusack’s (my definition of the perfect man) character who’s in love with this girl Beth. Beth breaks his heart to go out with the popular guy who can ski this super radical mountain (K-12) like no one’s business. And since JC’s character is in love with her, he decides he should kill himself because he doesnt want to live without her, or should try to win her back. After failed suicide, and skiing attempts, he meets the new foreign exchanged girl next door, who is staying with the stupidest looking neighbors on the planet.
My little plot summary wont really do much, unless you’ve seen this movie. I remember seeing it as a little girl, because my mom also had it on VHS (damn, I miss you VHS), and it is so funny. Somehow suicide can be funny. Who knew? My point is, please see this movie.
It has all the righteous elements that made 80’s films some of the best movies, ever. At least in my opinion.
